Why we chose in-home ABA for our practice
In 2012, I was introduced to ABA through a research project called ConnectedKids. Up until this point, I wasn’t even familiar with the term applied behavior analysis (ABA). However, I would soon see the impact it would have on children with autism and their families.
The What & Why ABA
This research project looked at how coaching parents to use developmental and behavioral strategies with their young child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) could impact the child’s social-communication skills with their parents and caregivers during play and daily routines. The services were delivered in their homes and other community settings.
As one of the research assistants on this project, I was able to listen to families speak about their experiences first hand. I listened and conducted pre- and post- intervention interviews with families which helped me discover the impact ABA was making on the quality of life for not only the child, but the family as a whole. If you are interested in the results of this intervention you can read the summary report here.
My Role in ABA
Since this research study was completed, I have participated in coaching families to use these same techniques both in person and virtually.
By working together, we will collaborate on goals you have for your child and we will have the opportunity to work in the environments challenging behavior most likely occurs, in your home. We will work on building skills that are critical to your child’s success such as communication, play and leisure skills, coping skills, and gaining attention. We refer to these as The Big Four. Your child will receive intervention directly from a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. You will be an active part of intervention and learn the strategies and tools you need to help your child continue to grow as they transition.
I hope to get to know you and work with you in the future!
Best,
Aubrey
